Hi all!
I'm mostly curious as what is the limiting factor of the number of
different archives libclamav (internally) supports.
While the currently supported formats are definitly the most widely used
- most commercial av-systems can decode much more archive types.
So is the problem mostly a lack of (developer) resources, lack of
interest (most of the more exotic archive types are hardly seen on the
internet) or (more seriously and problematic) licence problems?
A quick google search showed there a various Opensource (GPL'd) decoder
libaries available (at least for lza,lzo,...)
and then there is the LGPL'd
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
which seems to support "7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO,
RPM and DEB" (according to their homepage) (even rar 2.9 archives seems
supported)
and for rar - there is http://www.rarlab.com/rar/unrarsrc-3.3.6.tar.gz -
which has a interesting licence (no idea how that would apply to a GPL'd
clamav - I'm not a lawyer)
thanks for any insight into this!
Stefan
