The PPP implementation on Cisco supports LCP, authentication, etc.  The
framing is HDLC-like, in that it does asynchronous mapping, escaping, etc.
LCP is negotiated, with certain recommendations to avoid protocol/control
field compression.  FCS length is not negotiated.  See RFC 1662 and RFCs
1619/2615.
