I know there is a utility for Unix that you could run before FTP'ing called
unix2dos
And there is also a
dos2unix
Which converts all weird Unix characters to readable Dos like characters,
and visa versa. I dont know where you can get it, but all Solaris machines
I have ever worked on have it. Chances are you can download it from
somewhere.
