Something similar to this has worked for me *in some* servers (as thet 
were KVM machines i restored easily the ones in it doesn't work)

I don't know exactly why ones worked and others no, but:

If you have third party repositories point them to CentOS8 release

Never worked in workstations with graphic desktop

Backup, backup before try
