Human readable globally unique names do not scale.

Associate each human readable name with guid.  Show the human readable 
name, not the guid.  Sometimes, as in one's url favorites list, 
collisions can simply be accepted.

In other situations, it may be desirable to ensure that in any UI to the 
user, human readable names corresponding to different guids are 
distinguishable - perhaps by prepending a petname qualifier, or by 
suggesting to the user that he resolves the ambiguity.

Any time you need to present a big pile of human readable names to the 
user, there is a problem.  So don't do that.  And if you don't do that, 
there will not be many collisions.
