The advanced functions you mentions can be at least one of these two:
visualization or data processing. Most probably both, and a lot of
good integration.

If this helps you, the data processing on top of SpatiaLite/SQLite,
QGIS, PostGIS and means to do some of visualization (using 3rdparty
code) by Kexi were requested not once. Any support depends on
man-months supplied, so contributions are welcome.
