Dmitry committed a past last night I knocked up last night which disables progress \
reporting. For me, this seems to really "fix" (or rather, avoid) the hang. It needs \
more testing, but I am reasonably confident that with this patch enabled 2.4b2 can, \
after all, be tagged today.
