	I've always had trouble with sound in Linux as far back as the 2.30
kernel, which is why I started using OSS.  As to installing OSS it's simple,
you run the install program, it installs, you make sure it chose the right
soundcard., pick save, type soundon to turn soundon, soundoff to turn off. 
easy as pie.
