ah, but that is the project to which i have devoted a singularly
unsuccessful weekend! the confiure program renders a log that is a
monstrous stream of errors. i'm doing this as root, and insofar as i can
determine the necessary libraries are all where they are supposed to be.
yet the log is a listing of supposedly nonexistent files. i've run
ldconfig in an effort to make sure there are links where there should be,
but all is to no avail. and the existing compiled binaries, which are in
rpm form, will not unpack and instead spew a list of failed dependencies
revolving around libc.so.6, etc.
