There is already FEATURE_PIDFILE which "makes some applets (e.g. crond, 
syslogd, inetd) write a pidfile in /var/run".   I think the thing to do 
here is 1) make sure that all applets which run as daemons behave the 
same way with respect to pidfiles and 2) add another dependent option 
CONFIG_PID_FILE_PATH which allows one to configure the pid file path.  I 
think this should work for everyone.
