Cannot reproduce:

$ ./busybox wget http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/testing/patch-3.5-rc3.bz2 \
--no-check-certificate Connecting to www.kernel.org (149.20.20.133:80)
patch-3.5-rc3.bz2    100% |*************************|  7534k  0:00:00 ETA

Can you send your .config and provide other context?
