Well, good news Christian,

About the need of the boot parameter, it will be removed in the next
release, that I hope will be introduced to busybox. :-)

About the slow drawing, probably the ppm format is not exactly the most
suitable because it's not compressed and so too big.
In the future I would like to manage: 
-- other images formats
-- add text management for small sentences while booting.
