No, I don't think our mount knows _anything_ about
filesystem autodetection by analyzing block device contents.
I think it just tries all filesystem listed in
/etc/filesystems and/or /proc/filesystems until one succeeds.

Please show output of
strace -o log mount /dev/mtdblock0 /mnt/flash
