This innocent little question ("BTW" :) sent me down a very fruitful
journey. I replaced the "bugfix" libc-2.0.7.so with a copy of the
default Debian 2.1 Slink installed libc-2.0.7.so, and the problem
seems to have gone away. busybox insmod worked; so did strip.
I wonder what happened? I'll probably try a new copy of the security
fix release, and see what happens.
