You may want to load the CDrom and install diskette. You can break out of
install and then:

# mount_cd9660 /dev/sr0a /cdrom

That should help a lot. To get vi or pico going, you may need to create
some /var partition (you could use mount_mfs for that and make sure
/etc/termcap is available (you may need to make a link or setenv TERMCAP
/tmp/termcap after copying it to a mfs /tmp.

You may also have to set your shell.

Anyway, the above should get you in a state in which you can work on
getting stuff fixed. The editor should work, you can fsck, restore backed
up data, mount even the root filesystem (as you're using a basic one
from floppy in ram). This method is needed especially if the root
partition doesn't run though fsck or is seriously damaged. Sometimes you
need to do this type of thing to reinstall the boot blocks and get the boot
disk label right after installing Windows or some other operating system
as they MAY wipe out the option of booting to BSD. disksetup -i and not
fiddling with anything but the boot block/label stuff at the end of it
works. Before installing another OS make sure you have a recent backup in
case something goes wrong such as it not respecting BSD's space.
