Here is what BI tech support wrote to me and so far so good. 
My guess is that you are using a XISP NAME (taken out) DSL modem. 
Apparently, these modems change the BlackICE license key. Your license 
key has been changed to XXXXXXX-XX-XXXXX. What you need to do is find 
your correct license key & edit the file license.key.
Your correct license key can be located on your receipt or 
confirmation e-mail. Use any text editor (Note/WordPad, MSWord or 
whatever) to open the file... License.Key

The reason for using two firewalls is because:

1. Zone Alarm doesn't catch all attacks
2. What Zone Alarm misses, Black Ice catches
3. Have spent time in hacker and cracker newsgroups, and every time a 
new email address is used to post, my firewall gets attacked 
immediately.  So imagine, if Black Ice didn't backup Zone Alarm, I'd 
be in big trouble.  In fact, using Freedom gives me three firewalls 
and the places on the internet and people I've met can be nasty and 
vicious.
