Subject: [BIDissues] Weird internet access after installing BID (2.9)

I dial in to our work network from home, either to access my work PC
or for internet access. Worked fine with BID 2.5 and earlier, which
is installed on our web server at work.

Installed 2.9 on that server, and suddenly although I could still
dial into our network (and get into my PC via pcAnywhere, etc.), I
could not browse the internet unless I shut down the BlackIce engine.

Here is the interesting part: if I browse to a site while the engine
is off, I can re-start the engine and still navigate to that site
with the BID running again. And I'm not just using a cached image,
because I can navigate within that site as much as I want. It's as if
the BID was keeping me from seeing the DNS; but when I shut down the
engine and navigated to a site, my browser or OS would store that
site and begin building a little DNS of its own.

Just as interesting, from my perspective, my attempts to browse the
internet do not raise any alarms in BID while the engine is running.
Apparently my actions are something it feels the need to protect
against, yet doesn't make any noise about it.

Certainly would appreciate any enlightenment...

Regards-- Jim
