I'd like to implement an "auto tarball" mechanism.

What I mean by this is that somebody might visit a web page and decide they
want a particular release of a repo, and for whatever reason they don't want
to install bitkeeper.

If the appropriate tarball is not available, a script would generate one and
then it would be available for download.

This kind of scares me - evil folks could launch a DOS attack on a machine
this way.  But I figure I could "nice" the script and I could limit the
number of available tarballs (throw away "old" ones).

Thoughs, ideas, comments, code?
