"make install" is the easy way.

Of course! You could even compile BIND9 by hand if you put your mind
to it... But it would be in your best interest to replace all the old
BIND9 binaries with their 9.1.1 replacements rather than selectively
replace one or two of them. A complete replacement -- ie "make install
-- is the simplest and best thing to do.
