I also noticed something very interesting. When I removed the first line from
body selector leaving below given CSS, batik was able to parse it.

...
body {
margin:0;
color:#333333;
font:x-small Georgia Serif;
font-size/* */:/**/small;
font-size: /**/small;
text-align: center;
}

...
