I don't know how PostgreSQL handles that, but people running MySQL can
set up a cluster of databases where the catalog is replicated to a
remote site. Then, accessing the catalog for a restore is only a
matter of pointing your catalog to the remote server. You need a
decent WAN link to gain anything by it, of course.
