right.  check your 2.0.x autoconf.h for correct syntax.  Something like 
SET CONSOLE_TGA 1 is required. Avoid using make menuconfig and make 
xconfig until issues with these are resolved.  Personally, I use make 
xconfig and hand edit autoconf.h.
