Yes, I have used the ataraid/hptraid with 9.0 RC1 the stock kernel with those
modules inserted would pause for several seconds when accessing a file
greater than abt 1 meg on the raid 0. Havent tried it yet on the 9.0 final
release.

***** one note of warning BOTH rc1 and final release the disk partitioning of
the install hose the partition table and break the raid array when trying
ataraid/hptraid. This happened the second time when the partitions were
already running rc1 and I was trying to upgrade to final release. I just told
it the mount points and types then it wrote the partition table to disk,
which was unnecessary because nothing has changed. upon reboot HPT bios
complains the raid array is broken and the partition table is empty.

I have used the "open source" driver very succesfully but havent tried it for
an install. I installed to a plain disk, recompiled the kernel and open
source driver. made partitions on the raid 0, and copied the files over.
Made a new initrd with the open source driver, and any filesystem modules
needed, then made a new lilo entry. upgrading kernel versions is a pain, I
boot back to the plain disk and redo the steps again.

I am about to go thru this process tonight or tomorrow, will try to write down
step by step instructions as I go and post them back here.
