So is ataraid compiled as module or built into your BOOT kernel? Also, see
if any 'Unresolved symbols' using nm 

I think boot time loading of linux ata raid directly has a lot of problems
7.3 and onwards. I wish I can see ATARAID as a feature under module list
just like I can see for megaraid or scsi if I boot with "linux noprobe"
