Stefan,
Thanks for the reply.
I did as you suggested. This time I got a beep, but aRts still crashed.
The artsserver window gave me:
--- initializing Arts Synthesizer object ---

it has been adjusted to fit the needs of realtime audio

artswrapper: audiosubsys.cc:281: void AudioSubSystem::handleIO(int): Assertion
'len == fragment_size' failed.
Terminated abnormally (3376).
The window from which I ran the example gave:
<press return to end execution>
uncaught MICO exceptio: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0 (0, not-completed)
Aborted
(I assume that this was just a consequence of the first problem.)
I don't know if this means any more to you than to me, but I thought I'd let
you know just in case.
Regarding the SBLive! - I checked in /dev/sndstat and noted that Synth devices
are "Not supported by current driver". Is that the root of the problem?
I shall take it up with the authors of the emu driver.
Best wishes and I hope you are finding time to make some music too!
