Subject:    [ar2] make clean doesn't cleanup?

Why make clean or distclean doesn't delete the autogenerated stuff? e.g. I 
built apreq2 with 5.8.1 and then tried to test with 5.6.1 to see whether I can 
reproduce a problem reported by the user, and it worked fine for me. Untill I 
realized that I wasn't running 5.6.1, because t/TEST and other files still 
used 5.8.1. Here is the list of files:
