I got this same error when I was attempting to install into a directory which
was a symlink (/opt is a symlink to the directory /u/opt on my system -- /u is a
10GB+ filesystem containing *lots* of add-ons).

So I used the shell scripts from the web page instead of the graphical install 
just for this reason.
