Communication has been rock solid for 18 hours after I swapped the USB 
cable.  I didn't expect that to help, but glad it did.

I haven't seen any evidence of problems on the Windows machine using the 
cable that didn't work well with apcupsd, but it's always possible that 
I don't know what to look for.  I'm not running any specific software, 
the UPS is being managed by Windows.  Maybe I should install APC's software.
