Dayo,

I am still a novice with apcupsd, but since I have similar issues, maybe I
give you some thoughts I have:

I think your problem is kind of a "where to draw the line" problem. There
will allways be a time period, where you need to shut down the server and
quite shortly thereafter, power will come back.

In my case, I do the following - this is kind of windows specific, but there
are for sure comparable solutions also for other OS systems:

1.) I do the shutdown by my own logic" rather than thru apcupsd

2.) I do monitor the UPS "remote", which means NOT on the system that is the
server.

3.) I have the monitoring process running on a Laptop that even survives if
the UPS will go down

4.) the monitoring PC can now send (ip) messages to other devices being
controlled on the network, one of them being a Wake-On-Lan (WOL) package if
the poswer situation seems to be stable.

This all gives you some enhanced possibilities. In my case, I shut down
systems in reverse order to their significance to give the UPS more time for
the systems with more relevance.

The only thing I miss at them moment is that apcuspd will run the script
frequently if the UPS runs on battery to have a triggered process (at the
moment, my program loops endless which in turn costs some cpu).
