gary,

i believe your problem will be your DISK I/O subsystem.  if you are just 
using IDE drives, time to spend some money on an good SCSI based system. 
  this offloads the processes off the main CPU.

if you want your system to keep cool while being hammered by requests, i 
think your need to upgrade it.
