On glibc 2.1, the dbm library it comes with is db v2 from sleepycat
software. the ndbm functionality is still retained in the db1
compatibility code. However, these headers had to be moved out so they
wouldnt' conflict with the new db2 stuff. They are now in
/usr/include/db1/{ndbm.h,etc}. Yes this breaks some software. You will
have to patch the #include statement.
