meaning, more or less, somewhere you're doing this --
package Apache;
my $item;
print \$item;
or
use Apache;
my $something = \$Apache::patricularGizmo;
print $something;
or
use Apache;
print Apache->pickAMethod($value,@list); # which returns a scalar ref
or... :}
