To my understanding, this is really only a warning.

mod_gzip doesn't make use of the EAPI (which is a
modification of the Apache code by the SSL module),
so you might just ignore this warning.

I am using neither apxs not SSL, thus I cannot say
why recompiling mod_gzip.c with -DEAPI won't stop
this warning. But this warning has been reported
many times before on this lise, and nobody ever
reported a crash because of it.
