As far as i know --enable-shared command line parameters enables DSOs  and 
--enable-module just compiles the module into apache.

I think you should have it somewhere in your system and then load it with 
LoadModuel (if apache've been configured with --enable-shared CL parameter)

When you type # httpd -l it shows a list of modules which are compiled into 
apache (not as DSOs).
