And one thing to remember for Freebsd users (at least 6.2).
If your make.conf contains 
NO_SENDMAIL=   true 

You will need the libmilter:
(if your install of dkim-milter from ports fails, looking for -lmilter)
cd /usr/src/lib/libmilter
make clean && make && make install && make clean

An ambitious person with nothing else to do could create a ports PR for
it.
