Jan, you can change the mounting options for external disks in the KDE system
settings, that has nothing to do with Amarok. I have like you two locations,
internal HD and external USB HD, so if I set those to automount I never run
into this issue.

AFAIAC, I can't reproduce this report with Amarok 2.4-git, so this is likely
already solved.
