I already tried to clear the collection database and starting again, but the
bad symptoms reappear shortly after I start building it again.

No problem in being suggested to try building from svn, after all I have posted
a bug with the intention of helping to make Amarok better. And I probably could
so it, given enough time. However, installing a package takes me 2 minutes tops
vs. building from source which can be a lot more time consuming.

If I can do the svn build I'll report the results.
