           Summary: amarok ipod artwork optimization
           Product: amarok
           Version: 1.4.8
          Platform: Debian testing
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: amarok-bugs-dist kde org
        ReportedBy: braslau free fr

Version: 1.4.8 (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Amarok is a great application.
However, I use iTunes to manage music on my iPod.
Why? Artwork.

I can transfer all my music including album artwork to the iPod using amarok, but there is one major \
drawback: the artwork is not optimized for the iPod (unless, of course I were to "optimize" all of the \
artwork myself, I believe this means to convert it all to 300x300 pixels).
- the iPod is then VERY slow to display its artwork (the iPod must work hard to convert the files to the \
                appropriate display format).
- lots of storage space (~5-10%) is then occupied by non-music files (artwork, of course).
Both of these problems are solved using iTunes to manage the iPod. (Other problems exist: the artwork \
database seems to be easily corrupted and sometimes needs to be rebuilt. Using iTunes, this means syncing \
once without artwork then again with artwork.)

I haven't looked into the technical details. However, this seems to belong to a feature request for \
amarok to automatically optimize the artwork images for transfer to the iPod.

Thanks again. It's a great application!
