I'm running into the same problem on a Red Hat Linux 6.1 client, running on
Intel, kernel 2.2.14. This is with amanda 2.4.2, retrieved through cvs. I
received the error and just to make sure it wasn't what I installed, I
stripped the machine of amanda and then reinstalled. Same problem, I get
the error:

% ./amrecover
AMRECOVER Version 2.4.2. Contacting server on amanda.ots.utexas.edu ...
amrecover: Error connecting to server: Invalid argument
%

I have other amanda clients similarly configured and they work.
