Sort of. Get the latest version of Amanda and try amverify. It now
attempts to deal with all dump types.
If you use GNU tar for the backups, it should do a pretty good job of
verifying whether a restore will work. If not, there are some caveats:
* It has to use the vendor restore program on the machine running
amverify. If the dump image is from another OS, it will only be
able to tell you the tape is readable (via dd), not that the
internal structure is valid.
* In any case, the vendor restore programs are pitiful at checking
internal consistency. All they do is dump the directory information,
which is all at the front of the image, and they don't look at the
data portion at all. So a good result doesn't mean the image will
work with a "real" restore. Amverify will, however, read the whole
image and make sure the tape itself is at least OK.
