You  might want to mount  the FTP share  via  FUSE filesystem and
CurlFTP. Then you  might want to  setup virtual tapes  on the mounted
ftp share .... depends on your platform  and network performance.

I was unsuccessful, since  the connection to the ftp share was too sluggish.
