As we've hinted in various posts here, there's a lot of exciting new
stuff coming up in 3.2:

 - multiple simultaneous tapers (!!)
 - LEOM support (lossless splitting)
 - new, simpler splitting parameters
 - massive amvault improvements
 - retirement of most old changers
 - a great deal of code cleanup and bug fixes
 - (hopefully) per-client recovery permissions
 - (hopefully) SSL authentication

On a personal note: I've enjoyed working on Amanda, and hopefully
served the project well, but the time has come for me to move on.
I've accepted a position with Mozilla, and that means, sadly, a
significant reduction in the time I have to spend on Amanda.

In the interests of giving me a chance to fix some of the bugs I have
introduced during my time here, we will be building a beta version of
3.2.0 on Wednesday the 29th. Since I will only be around for two
weeks afterward, it is critical that we get as much testing as
possible on this beta. I know Gene and Stefan are already debugging
the bleeding edge, and I very much appreciate their hard work. It
would be great if the rest of the "regulars" on the list could set
aside some time and a virtual machine or other test environment for
next week.

Lest you were thinking of celebrating - you're not completely rid of
me! It's my turn to practice what I've been preaching for so long:
contributing to Amanda in spare time. I will keep submitting patches
to Amanda, and I will continue to provide technical advice to other
contributors on IRC and on the amanda-hackers list. To keep my
sanity, though, I will have a much lower profile on this mailing list.
This is a great support community, and I expect that to continue
unabated in my absence!

I'd also like to extend my gratitude to Zmanda for funding,
supporting, and making public my work, and that of others, on Amanda.
I know the company, through the work of Jean-Louis and others, will
continue its dedication to Amanda and I expect to see more exciting
new developments in upcoming versions.

Dustin
