Hi everybody,

AI've got a notebook with the ESS Maestro2-chip build in (at least the
commercial OSS-driver is saying it :-)  ). Now I downloaded the ALSA 0.5.7 and
tried to install it. But after the successful compiling of the sources, the
driver just don't want to start. There are no other soundmodules loaded. I've
done everything explained in the documentation on the hp.
With

modprobe snd-card-es1968 snd_port=0x220 snd_mpu_port=0x330 snd_jport=0x200
snd_irq=5 snd_dma1=1
~~~
or
~~~
modprobe snd-card-es1968
~~~
and even with sbawe or sb16 as soundcard I always get the following
errormessage

As you can see I have a 2.2 kernel. It is a standardkernel from SuSE,
soundsupport is therefore implemented (or?).

A cat /proc/pci prints the following text:

On the hp, it is said that the Maestro2 is supported. Do you also have had any
experiences with these chips in notebooks? Are there typical known problems?

I also compiled the drivers with --with-debug=detect, but there were no ouputs
in /var/log/messages.
