PatrickI think you are missing the point of my question. I am not asking
for measuring the specific transfer rate of a file. I am asking if there is
a way that I could measure ALL transfers in and out of a filesystem done by
users during a period of time of their normal use. Is there a monitoring
tool that I can use to allow to run and would capture the amount of I/O in
and out of a file system. It will have to be some kind of a passive method
that captures this information rather than a staged file transfer that I
could do at anytime.

do ftp tests of your own. When you ftp to a node, ftp will provide you with
transfer statistics.

Subject: Measuring Data Transfer Across NFS Filesystems
Is there a way to measure how much data is transferred across a filesystem
that is NFS mounted by several users? I have some users who are NFS mounting
filesystems in a NAS environment and need to have some idea as to how much
data is transferred on a per filesystem basis.
Thanks!
