I also dont allow users to user cron - only root. and thats how I have

I need to automatically FTP a couple of files to a machine each day and
since I already have cron running a couple of things it just seem to
make sense to use that root cron and whatnot.

I dont have any cron processes set up for any users -- only root -- but
I suppose I could set up a cron process to run via a user. It just seem
unnecessary. However if the root cron will not read the .netrc file I
may have no other choice.

Would anyone eles like to offer some input?

Thanks to all for their help,

Mark

i think it's exceedingly dangerous to make a .netrc for root. actually,
root
will ignore the .netrc.
