The answer is "IT DEPENDS", and different people have different opinions,
depending on what you are optimizing for.

If you will go to www.adsm.org and click CURRENT MONTH, this topic was
discussed at length over the past 2 days under the topic: allocating disk
volumes on RAID5 array

Subject: Storage Pool Size

I am planning a TSM Server move from OS390/MVS to AIX. My largest
storage pool is about 73gig and is spread across 32 volumes of about
2.3gig each. On AIX I will have a 128gig file system so I could put
that storage pool into a single volume if that makes sense.

My question is should I spread the storage pool across multiple tms
volumes and if so what size should I make them? So should I allocate it
as one large volume?

David
