Hi Dominik & list,

I just tested 2.5.17 + acpi-20020522 with Dominik's pciirq.23 and
wbinvd.4 patches on my Gericom 1st Supersonic M6-T. This notebook has
a Pentium III "Tualatin" desktop CPU which does not support SpeedStep,
and it also does not support C3 "natively", i.e. under plain 2.5.17 +
acpi-20020522 /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power looks like this

    $ cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power
    active state:            C2
    default state:           C1
    bus master activity:     00000000
    states:
	C1:                  promotion[C2] demotion[--] latency[000] usage[00000190]
       *C2:                  promotion[--] demotion[C1] latency[020] usage[42936561]
	C3:                  <not supported>

With the wbinvd.4 patch, C3 comes to life:

    $ cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power
    active state:            C2
    default state:           C1
    bus master activity:     fffebfff
    states:
	C1:                  promotion[C2] demotion[--] latency[000] usage[00000010]
       *C2:                  promotion[C3] demotion[C1] latency[020] usage[00020616]
	C3:                  promotion[--] demotion[C2] latency[215] usage[00000160]

Unfortunately, after a while the system locks up (mouse movements and key
presses have no effect, and the machine does no longer respond to pings);
all I can do is to use the power button and shut it off. I repeated the
"cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power" a few times while the machine was
still alive, and I saw the C3 count did not increase. I am using an USB
mouse and keyboard in case this makes any difference.

The pciirq.23 patch apparently works fine, as expected.

Best regards,
Arndt
