I'd like to formally propose the Sugar patches to add text handles to
improve touch interaction on the GTK+ backend.

This work has undergone already a few iterations on our side, the last
version of the patch being at
http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13410

The implementation of text handles itself has been taken mostly as-is
from GTK+ into the Abiword codebase (besides the namespace change to
avoid clashes if that API gets public in a future). Higher level hooks
have been done above that, which are NO-OP on other platforms.

It has been made so handles only appear by default when abiword gets
interacted through a touch screen (it knows so through the GdkDevice
type from input events). In order to ease testing, I also added an
ABI_TEST_TOUCH envvar check so behavior can be tested with any input
device.

As theming goes the same way than GTK+ text handles, Adwaita from 3.6
has the right theming bits to show this properly, so no special
requirements there.

Hope it's considered :)

  Carlos
